Assuming the Proper Relationship Between Ourselves and Our Creator
...by Oliver McMahon
Psalm XCIV
"...Quoniam ipsius est mare, et ipse fecit illud, et aridam fundaverunt manus ejus: venite, adoremus, et proccidamus ante Deum: ploremus coram Domino qui fecit nos, quia ipse est Dominus Deus noster nos autem populos ejus et oves pascuae ejus...."
"For the sea is His and He made it; and His hands founded the dry land. Come let us worship and fall down before God; let us weep before the Lord that made us; for He is the Lord our God; and we are His people and the sheep of His pasture."
This psalm clearly shows the proper attitude to assume before God. In this psalm God tells us how we should worship Him. When we humble ourselves before God in posture and prayer we acknowledge His authority over us and our complete dependence on Him for our well being. This brings perspective to our week and spiritually refreshes us because it reminds us where we stand in the scheme of creation. We are His and He has made us, not we ourselves. We find this attitude in the Traditional Mass. We kneel from the Sanctus (Holy holy holy...) unitl the Pater Noster. we kneel to receive our Lord in Communion; we kneel for the priest's blessing and to offer prayers of thanksgiving after Mass.
Modern man claims to be the author of his own destiny. The French Revolution declared that man is the measure of all things and that a free man has no authority over him. Yet, as the psalm says, God made the world and us. We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. He deserves that we show Him due reverence. The reverence shown in the Latin Mass helps us to put things in perspective.

Thanks for this post on proper reverence and your previous one about the unifying aspect of the Latin Mass. The Good God created the proper worship because we could not know this on our own. And He supplied the unifying Communion in His Body and Blood. We forget how helpless we are without Him.
