Saint Of The Day

Holy Father Friday

In the great blogging tradition of the "Wordless Wednesday" I hereby propose, nominate, and initiate "Holy Father Friday". What better way to take us through the weekend than with some especially  memorable words of the Holy Father? The only difficulty will be finding only ONE passage to quote.

So without further fanfare in the words of our Holy Father:

"We are moving toward a dictatorship of relativism which does not recognize anything as definitive and has as its highest value one's own ego and one's own desires... The Church needs to withstand the tides of trends and the latest novelties.... We must become mature in this adult faith, we must guide the flock of Christ to this Faith.”

What a good idea for a new feature on the blog.

It is good to hear his Holiness going against the tide and novelties. This is momentous considering that the dichotomy between Vatican II and past popes now rests squarely on his shoulders. No one knows this better than the pope himself. In 1982, then-Cardinal Ratzinger wrote that Vatican II "is a revision of the Syllabus of Pius IX, a kind of counter-Syllabus," referring to the Syllabus of Errors published by Ven. Pope Pius IX. He further wrote of how the initiatives of Pius IX and Pius X had been "corrected." Now Joseph Ratzinger sits alone on the Throne, facing Our Lord, Pius IX, St. Pius X, and the tide of Vatican II.

The enormity of this time in history is apparent with the release of the Latin Mass, but more so with the issue of the council versus the Syllabus. For the Latin Mass did not prevent the "counter-Syllabus" and therefore cannot correct it now. Only his Holiness can do that. Let us pray that grace prevails.
