Altar Server Training at St. Benedict Center

On Saturday, March 29th the brothers of the Slaves
of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, at St. Benedict Center
in Still River Massachusetts, hosted a workshop for men
and boys interested in serving the Traditional Latin Mass.

I had the pleasure of attending along with four students
from St. Anselm's College and a boy named Nial who was
already skilled at serving Holy Mass.

The day began at 8:30 a.m. with the traditional Mass. Following
Mass we were treated to juice and coffee after which we began
our study in the basement of Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel.
Br. Matthew took us through Latin pronunciation and gave us
printed cards with all of our responses in Latin and with phonetic
spelling below to make it easy.

Next Br. Matthew detailed all of the responsibilities of each server,
book and bells, and then walked us through the Mass in pairs. We
made all the motions and responses and got to observe the other
students when it was their turn. We then proceeded into the
Sanctuary and ran through it all again. Brother also showed us
what to do if we must serve alone. In all we observed the entire
sequence of actions at least six times. This really helped to fix it
in our memories.

I'd like to thank Br. Thomas Augustine and Br. Matthew for their
time and hospitality in offering this great service. For those who
thought about attending but couldn't make it this time, if you see
it offered again, take advantage of it. It was great.

Felicitas :

It's wonderful to hear that there were college students in attendance and it's encouraging that young men their age are taking an interest in the Traditional Latin Mass.
