Last week, while our Holy Father was on American soil, a historic visit was made to the Park East Synagogue in New York City. Someone very astute, noted that Pope Benedict used the occasion of this visit to bring up the Holy Name of Our Lord Jesus.
His remarks were thus:
Dear Friends, Shalom! It is with joy that I come here, just a few hours before the celebration of your Pesah, to express my respect and esteem for the Jewish community in New York City. The proximity of this place of worship to my residence gives me the opportunity to greet some of you today. I find it moving to recall that Jesus, as a young boy, heard the words of Scripture and prayed in a place such as this. I thank Rabbi Schneier for his words of welcome and I particularly appreciate your kind gift, the spring flowers and the lovely song that the children sang for me. I know that the Jewish community make a valuable contribution to the life of the city, and I encourage all of you to continue building bridges of friendship with all the many different ethnic and religious groups present in your neighborhood. I assure you most especially of my closeness at this time, as you prepare to celebrate the great deeds of the Almighty, and to sing the praises of Him who has worked such wonders for his people. I would ask those of you who are present to pass on my greetings and good wishes to all the members of the Jewish community. Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Now, in the context of this website and certain doctrinal discussions, I think this is an important point. What is the goal of Christianity?
Simply put, "Salvation".
What, or more properly who, is the means of salvation?
Our Lord Jesus Christ.
I copied this idea from Amy Welborn's blog.

Good things happening at St. Margaret's Church in Oceanside, CA- Fr. Z's report is here.
said the following:
parishes and priests should make available the Extraordinary Form so that “everyone may have access to this treasure of the ancient liturgy of the Church.” He also stressed that, “even if it is not specifically asked for, or requested” it should be provided. Interestingly, he added that the Pope wants this Mass to become normal in parishes, so that “young communities can also become familiar with this rite.”
This is really a stunning development. According to Summorum Pontificum, the Traditional Latin Mass was to be made available to the Faithful who requested it. Now Cardinal Hoyos is saying that the Traditional Latin Mass should be made available to
EVERYONE!
As an acknowledgement of the Traditonal Latin Mass to the life of the Church and to the spiritual life of the average Catholic, this is very significant.
I know I've said it before but I'll say it again, "we live in an exciting time". A time of real renewal, re-trenchment and rediscovery of the vital, essential Tradition.
May we live to see its fruit: real solid, proliferate vocations, the creation of a culture that is Catholic and unapologetic, authentic Catholic education, and Catholic families that transmit the Faith, promote the Truth and raise up more members to the Church Militant.
May God will it thus.

When Jacinta was ill
Almost every day, on her way home from morning Mass and Communion, Lucia would drop in to visit Jacinta. It was such a great joy to Jacinta. -"Lucia" she asked, "did you receive Communion today?"
"Yes, Jacinta."
"Then come very close to me for you have Our Lord in your heart. I don't know how it happens but I feel Our Lord in me and I understand what He says even if I don't see Him or hear Him. It is so good to be with Him."
Lucia took from her prayer book a little picture of a chalice and Host. Jacinta took and kissed it so earnestly.
"It's the Hidden Jesus. I love Him so much. How I'd love to receive Him in church. Don't you take Communion in Heaven? If we do, I'll receive Him every day. If the Angel had come to the hospital to bring Communion to me, how happy I would have been."

May 25th, Sunday Mass will be at 7:45 AM and weekly thereafter.
Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, I adore You profoundly, and I offer You the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the earth, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which He Himself is offended. And by the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of poor sinners.
O Most Holy Trinity, I adore You! My God, my God, I love You in the most Blessed Sacrament!
My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I ask pardon of You for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You!
Our Lady taught this: "Sacrifice yourselves for sinners; and say often, especially when you make some sacrifice: `My Jesus, it is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.'"

Pope Pius XII Speaks Out
Now here's an interesting point. In his Encyclical Letter Mediator Dei, Pope Pius XII warned of a "wicked movement that tends to paralyze the sanctifying and salutary action by which the liturgy leads the children of adoption on the path to their heavenly Father." This wicked movement was concerned with reviving obsolete liturgical practices on the grounds that they were more primitive, and one of the suggestions Pope Pius condemned it for advocating was the restoration of the altar to the form of a table.

Solemn High Latin Mass on Friday, May 30th at 5:15 PM
On the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart
It's tempting, when a long-time enemy suddenly takes ill, to rejoice at his misfortune and relish his coming demise and the thought of his final judgment. Justice at last! That was my first thought on hearing that Ted Kennedy has a brain tumor, but after some reflection I decided to pray for him and for his conversion.
In Luke 15 we read " And he spoke to them this parable, saying: 4 What man of you that hath an hundred sheep: and if he shall lose one of them, doth he not leave the ninety-nine in the desert, and go after that which was lost, until he find it? 5 And when he hath found it, lay it upon his shoulders, rejoicing: 6 And coming home, call together his friends and neighbors, saying to them: Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost? 7 I say to you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven upon one sinner that doth penance, more than upon ninety-nine just who need not penance. "
If we rejoice at the loss of any soul we rejoice with Satan, who is always happy to see souls condemned. But God and Heaven rejoice at every sinner saved.
So I ask that you pray for Senator Kennedy that he too may be saved.
Rome, May. 23, 2008 (CWNews.com) - Pope Benedict XVI has approved the canonical statutes of the Neocatechumenal Way, leaders of the lay apostolate have announced.
It is of interest to the Latin Mass community that Pope Benedict has granted canonical approval to group that holds heretical views on the sacrificial nature of the Holy Mass. The Neocatechumenal Way, founded in the 60's by Kiko Arguello and Carmen Hernandez, is known for holding their own unique eucharistic liturgies. Here are some quotes of the founders' teachings on the Mass and the doctrine of No Salvation Outside the Church. (Source: "Where do Rome and the Neo-Catechumenal Way Stand In 2006?" by Mark Allesio, Catholic Family News, April 2006)
(From Kiko's Schema for Catechesis) So we see a whole series of ideas entering the liturgy from the natural religions: offering things to God to placate Him, sacrifices, lambs, offerings, etc. Israel too did this sort of thing in their sacrificial cult, but little by little God had brought them from sacrifices and temples toward a liturgy of praise glorifying and to the great spirituality of the Passover. The new people in the Church then returned to what the people of Israel left behind, the pagan rites appear in the Christian liturgy.
"What is desperately needed today is not another bishops' letter, not verba, but deeds and not words."
By Rev. Anthony J. Manuppella
In the year 422 A.D. Pope St. Celestine enunciated an axiom in sacred theology. Legem credendi statuit lex orandi. From the Latin, translated literally it means, the rule of prayer determines the rule of faith. In other words, the way we pray, shows what we believe.
It is because this axiom is so true that Holy Mother the Church takes great care in making sure the liturgy, especially the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, is carried out with the greatest care. Consequently, the priest is suppose to follow certain rubrics during the Mass, such as genuflecting at certain times, folding his hands, or hands outstretched, enunciating clearly the words of the Mass, especially the Holy Words of the consecration, etc. Why? The reason is to show that the Mass is not like going to McDonalds for a Big Mac, to show, to point out that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is something very special. The Mass transcends time and space because we are being made present to the Redeeming and Salvific act of Christ's Redemption;the Sacrifice of Calvary. The Mass is the sacred Eucharistic Sacrifice. The Mass is the Sacrificial Banquet!
Unfortunately, over the past 30 years we have seen an excessive emphasis on the meal or banquet aspect of the Mass to the detriment of the sacrificial aspect. And so how many of us have witnessed liturgical aberrations in Masses we've attended where the priest might dress up as a clown so the children can better relate to him and the Holy Meal or the Halloween Masses where the priest is dressed up in a Halloween costume, or the Masses where Father is acting more like Jay Leno on the Tonight Show rather than acting in persona Christi at the altar? I could go on and on.
