Neocatechumenal Way Receives Papal Approval
Rome, May. 23, 2008 (CWNews.com) - Pope Benedict XVI has approved the canonical statutes of the Neocatechumenal Way, leaders of the lay apostolate have announced.
It is of interest to the Latin Mass community that Pope Benedict has granted canonical approval to group that holds heretical views on the sacrificial nature of the Holy Mass. The Neocatechumenal Way, founded in the 60's by Kiko Arguello and Carmen Hernandez, is known for holding their own unique eucharistic liturgies. Here are some quotes of the founders' teachings on the Mass and the doctrine of No Salvation Outside the Church. (Source: "Where do Rome and the Neo-Catechumenal Way Stand In 2006?" by Mark Allesio, Catholic Family News, April 2006)
(From Kiko's Schema for Catechesis) So we see a whole series of ideas entering the liturgy from the natural religions: offering things to God to placate Him, sacrifices, lambs, offerings, etc. Israel too did this sort of thing in their sacrificial cult, but little by little God had brought them from sacrifices and temples toward a liturgy of praise glorifying and to the great spirituality of the Passover. The new people in the Church then returned to what the people of Israel left behind, the pagan rites appear in the Christian liturgy.
Perhaps God requires the blood of His Son, His Sacrifice, to appease Himself? But what kind of a God have we done [sic]? We have arrived to think that God appeases His Wrath in the sacrifice of His Son in the manner of the pagan gods.
(from Carmen) For the sacrament is not only the bread and wine but also the assembly, the whole Church which proclaims the Eucharist. Without this assembly proclaiming the Eucharist there can be no Eucharist.
(From the Schema) Perhaps we think that the mission of the Church is to get all these people outside the Church and put them inside .... If this were true, then without doubt we can say that Christ has failed after two thousand years, ...
The primitive Church never saw itself as the only raft of salvation, but as a mission within history ... Nevertheless, this phrase [i.e., no salvation outside the Church] understood juridically is the mentality of all the ordinary people listening to you. It is at the bottom of our ideas of the Church: extreme unctions to the sick, last-minute confessions, quick baptisms to children, etc.
"The mentality of all the ordinary people ..." Warms your heart, doesn't it? One day, Rome frees the Latin Mass, and the next day it blesses an elitist heretical cult that denies the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. What are we to think?

Let us pray that the Holy Father offers a public Tridentine Mass before he offers a public Neocatechumenate Mass. Its not to confusing, is it?
The race is on.

The holy father only speaks of correcting a discontinuity in the liturgy by restoring the Latin Mass. He has indeed celebrated the neocatechumenal liturgy himself many time over the years.. it resembles the Ambrosian rite in fact (sic Milan). Where Peter is,there is the Church. There is a continuity. You are the past, they are the future. Why not accept Peter's verdict?

mauk,
Show me an official source that shows that the Holy Father has offered an neo-catechumenate service.
Have you actually ever seen the Ambrosian -Rite Mass offered?
I have been to Milan and have seen it.
I have also witnessed a neo-cat. service and there is absolutely no similiarity.
The Holy Father does not believe that the Tridentine or Gregorian Mass is the past.
He has repeatedly offered this Mass himself and has repeatedly called forth the fact of its continuity with the organic development of the Sacred Liturgy.
"Ever Ancient ever New".
Why not accept The Holy Fathers verdict?
Ut Prosim.

I think mauk is onto something. The Latin Mass is providing continuity for us stragglers, but Peter is moving ahead. It's the verdict of Peter, hence the verdict of the Holy Spirit. Let's get with the program so we're not left behind!
Did I get it right? Am I hip, bro? Cool.

Cyprian,
HEE HEE HEE...very funny.
Nice job.
I didn't realize that we have a troll roaming about.
I get it know.
God bless and God bless our Supreme Pontiff and his neocat buddies.
[sorry about the bad jest]

"Where Peter is, there is the Church." Absolutely, for there is no salvation without personal submission to the Holy Father.
This phrase, however, is falsely used against those who refuse to update. Fifteen years ago, it was used against me by an Opus Dei priest. He was very angry with me for affiliating with traditionalists. While it is nice to be finally vindicated, it's sad to think of all the souls he misled. Could mauk be one of them?

Just for fun, let's also take a look at mauk's "bait and switch" tactic.
Bait: The Latin Mass was restored to correct a discontinuity in the liturgy.
Switch: "Where Peter is,there is the Church. There is a continuity."
Result: "You are the past, they are the future. Why not accept Peter's [neocat] verdict?"
Whoops - where did the Latin Mass go? Out the window, of course. Let's pray that Rome isn't thinking like mauk.

"How to Serve Low Mass" CD is a beautiful training exercise for an Altar Server to learn how to serve Low Mass. The instruction was given by a Roman Catholic Priest from Catholic University of America in the 1950s. The training gives an overview of the functions and duties of an Altar Server throughout Mass, as well as the Latin prayers he must recite and when. This CD is a great guide for any Altar Server trying to learn to serve Mass, but also great for a layperson to devoutly learn the prayers and rubrics of the traditional Latin Roman Rite of Mass.
-- I MUST SAY THIS CD WAS TRULY "EXTRAORDINARY FORM" TO THE LETTER. GREAT TRIDENTINE PRAYERS RECITED BY TRADITIONAL CATHOLIC PRIEST AND SERVER.
A MUST HAVE FOR ALL SERVERS, SEMINARIANS, DEACONS, AND PRIESTS.
