Our hearts go out to the members of the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi, who've recently learned that they are victims of a terrible deception. We hope that the leaders of the cult will somehow be removed and that honest men and women will enter to help members unravel the mind control that tears them up inside. Sad to say, there is no sign that this is taking place. Rather, the leadership is now turning the screws to keep their slaves more tightly bound.
Just last week, Fr. Alvaro Corcuera, the superior of the Legion, laid the burden on the members to atone for the persecution that the Legion is suffering! Excerpts form his speech can be found in an article entitled Like father, like son on life-after-rc.com along with the author's analysis, some of which is included here:
This is staggering blindness by a man who is called to lead. ...If one follows the thread, then this leader is suggesting that the members are being criticised for their mistakes. He says that the members have to dig deeper and do better. (Now we'll overlook the fact that for years members have done what their superiors asked, even to the point of deceiving others, using people, and promoting the Movement at the expense of the reputations of others -- but the methodology called for it.)
Could we take a deep breath and call to mind the reason for the criticism?
- The founder was a fraud;
- His victims were slandered and maligned;
- The LC hierarchy pretended he was a living saint;
- The LC has yet to apologise to the victims;
- The methodology has serious flaws that have not been addressed;
- The charism is under investigation;
- The deceit and manipulation are systemic;
- Numerous bishops have expressed grave concerns.
Alvaro gives the advice: "we also have to analyze and examine ourselves, to correct, to improve, to learn, and to keep overcoming evil with good" -- and yet there is zero indication that the Legion hierarchy has taken any ownership of its own responsibility.
This analysis is right on the mark, except for the assumption of "blindness." These men know exactly what they're doing, just as they have been doing it for decades.
On a related subject, there is little indication that the leaders of the cult of novelty in the Church are taking any responsibility for the deplorable state of doctrine and worship today. While His Holiness has freed the Mass, there is notable resistance to freeing the plebs to exercise their birthright via a liberal application of the Mass. Of more importance, there is no effort to lead the plebs to the words of the Holy Ghost which hold the key to undoing the cult, notably the teachings of Ven. Pius IX, Leo XIII, St. Pius X, and others. Finally, there is no indication that the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is coming, an act which will surely restore the Church to Her former glory.
Novus Ordo cults like LC/RC are just symptoms of the larger cult of novelty, and the Church is rife with such wolves today. Pray the Rosary every day that the scourge may soon end.

Thank you for your prayers for this group. You're correct that the leaders of the Legion are not blind -- I find them crafty and deceptive. Please note that the Legion infiltrates other groups and then claims their work as their "fruit." Wrong and bad, of course, but I have heard rumours that they were trying to make inroads into the Latin Mass community so that they could recruit some of their children to their ranks. Their priests were actually training in the EF so that they could offer the sacraments to families who assist at those Masses, mostly homeschoolers. Please, never be fooled. This group is a particular scourge that has to be cut away from the true vine.
Hi Giselle,
Thank you for your comments. I'm sure you're right that LC/RC targets the Latin Mass. It's kind of schizo though. Years ago, I kept getting a drubbing from a LC'er trying to get me away from the Latin mass. It was similar to the treatment I got from Opus Dei. But they wouldn't have come to my Mass -- no way.
So, we keep our eyes open. We trads have enough trouble dealing with each other, and certainly don't need LC or OD infiltrators wreaking havoc!
I am very familiar with Regnum Christi and the Legionaries's methods of operation. But after leaving the Regnum Christi, I was happily called to the Latin Mass. I don't believe that the Legionaries will make any inroads into the Latin Mass group. They like to show themselves with a cassock, but they only wear it in the presence of the Pope (why?!). They actually don't like homeschoolers and certainly not traditional homeschoolers, because they are not "easily bent" (they like their Baltimore catechism, the Legion likes their own perfected catechim). Also when I was in RC, I have heard from a LC priest that they dislike the trads because they like praying the rosary too much. Regnum Christi is much too modernist to make any impact on the Latin Mass goes, they are way too active. The Legion is typifies the "Americanism" heresy (I apologize I don't know if heresy is the proper term). I also remember that the LCs and consecrated women were not to attend a Mass where the priest was not facing the Congregation. Maybe since the Motu Proprio their ideas have changed....
Giselle and Mia,
Becoming free from RC can't be easy. Fr. Alvaro is now raising the stakes, i.e., it's LC/RC vs the world, hence, anyone even thinking of leaving now is worse than Judas. Do I have it right? How do you break away? Do their mind traps still haunt you?
